There are always plenty of Essex properties open for visitors – especially in Colchester and Maldon – and the days include tours, events and activities.
Nationally, Heritage Open Days attract around one million visitors and include buildings such as churches, private homes, industrial sites, windmills, town halls and anything unusual.

The World”s Biggest Coffee Morning, being held on Friday, September 24, is Macmillan Cancer Support”s biggest fundraising event. People from across the UK hold a coffee morning, and donations are made to Macmillan. Last year Pounds 7.9 million was raised, and this year the aim is to raise more than Pounds 8 million. So if you want to do your bit pop along to the Marks & Spencer Cafe in-store at Chelmsford, Basildon, Thurrock or Romford on the day. See page 32 for recipes to serve at your charity coffee morning.
